Mushfiqur Rahim has become the pride of Bangladesh for bagging most of the centuries for the country's Test Cricket. On Monday, the third day of the Sylhet Test against Pakistan, he brought up the 14th century of his career. Mominul Haque, who previously shared the top spot with 13 centuries, has dropped to second place. Tamim Iqbal sits in third with 10 centuries, followed by Najmul Hossain Shanto in fourth with 9, and Litton Das in fifth with 6 centuries.
After captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed early in the morning for 15 runs, Mushfiqur played patiently to complete his half-century off 103 balls. Following that, "Mr. Dependable" accelerated his scoring pace. He formed an excellent 123-run partnership off 188 balls for the fifth wicket alongside Litton. Having reached his half-century off 67 balls, Litton looked poised for a century once again, but he got caught out off the bowling of Hasan Ali for 69 runs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz failed with the bat yet again, leaving Mushfiqur isolated after scoring 19 runs off 39 balls. Just as Litton Das had fought alongside the tail-enders in the first innings, Mushfiqur had to undertake a similar battle on this day. Partnering with Taijul, he hit a boundary off Abbas to reach his century off 178 balls.
On his way to reaching the three-figure mark, Mushfiqur also became the first Bangladeshi batsman to cross the milestone of 16,000 runs in international cricket. Having played international cricket for 21 years, Mushfiqur is the highest run-scorer for Bangladesh across all three formats combined. At the end of 87.4 overs, Bangladesh's score in the second innings stood at 333 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, establishing a lead of 379 runs.
