The intense, sweltering heat across the country may subside somewhat. There is a 50-70% probability of thunderstorms or heavy rainfall in various areas. This could weaken the ongoing heatwave. This information was provided in the weather forecast issued on Saturday night.
According to the forecast, the sky over several parts of the country today may be partly to mostly cloudy. Cloud cover is expected to be higher, particularly in the Barishal, Khulna, Dhaka, Rangpur, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Mymensingh divisions.
However, some areas may see glimpses of sunlight between the clouds. Depending on the location, 3 to 6 hours of normal sunshine may be experienced during the day.
Scattered, isolated thunderstorms are possible in all divisions of the country today. Among them, the likelihood of rain is higher in several areas of Rangpur, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Khulna divisions.
Additionally, heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of the Rangpur, Barishal, Mymensingh, and Chattogram divisions. Due to an active rain band, gusty winds may accompany rain in affected areas, but the likelihood of nor'westers (Kalboishakhi) or hailstorms is low. As there is a risk of moderate to intense lightning strikes in areas expecting rainfall, people have been advised to move to a safe place immediately upon seeing clouds. The name of the next rain band is 'Rimjhim'.
Due to the rain, daytime temperatures may decrease slightly in most parts of the country. Nighttime temperatures are also expected to drop somewhat. Consequently, the ongoing heatwave is likely to weaken, and the oppressive humidity may gradually decrease. However, normal humid and hot weather may persist during the day in some parts of the country. The name of the next heatwave is 'Gumot'.
Regarding rainfall records, the highest rainfall in the 24 hours from 6 PM on June 5th was recorded in Narsingdi, at 49 millimeters. During this period, the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Cox's Bazar at 36.30 degrees Celsius, and the lowest temperature was recorded in Sylhet at 22.70 degrees Celsius.
Today, sunrise in Dhaka was at 5:10 AM, and sunset will be at 6:43 PM. The length of today is 13 hours and 33 minutes. At noon, the sun will be tilted 1.20 degrees south from the central region. Meanwhile, the coastal and sea areas of the country are currently considered relatively safe.
A total solar eclipse will occur on August 12th of this year, and a partial lunar eclipse will occur on August 28th. However, neither of these eclipses will be visible from Bangladesh.
