Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in 11 districts to stand by the affected people as severe floods hit various parts of the country due to several days of continuous heavy rainfall and mountain runoff. The districts are Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Chittagong, Feni, Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Netrokona, and Jamalpur.
This information was shared in a press release sent from the BGB Headquarters today, Sunday.
The press release stated that BGB has been deployed across these 11 districts to rescue flood victims, arrange safe shelters, distribute relief materials, provide emergency medical assistance, restore damaged communication networks, and protect vulnerable infrastructure amid disasters caused by torrential rains, mountain runoff, floods, and landslides. To tackle the disaster, BGB is conducting round-the-clock flood monitoring and surveillance activities at 90 points in the aforementioned districts. Immediate rescue operations and humanitarian aid are being ensured based on necessity.
BGB informed that, so far, it has rescued and provided safe shelter to over 600 people from 122 families, including 116 tourists, from various flood-affected areas of Bandarban. They have also distributed food items and provided emergency medical services to 48 individuals. Additionally, BGB played an effective role in removing fallen trees and debris to restore the communication system on the Bandarban-Rowangchhari road.
Furthermore, in Naikhyangchhari, BGB personnel are working tirelessly to take emergency preventive measures to protect a steel bridge made vulnerable by soil erosion, ensuring the safe movement of the public. BGB’s rescue, relief, medical, and other humanitarian assistance operations will continue until the situation returns to complete normalcy to ensure the lives, safety, and well-being of the flood-stricken people.
