The long wait of six months is over. Finally, on Saturday at 7:00 AM, the 10 donation boxes and three trunks of the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj were opened under tight security.
The boxes were opened in the presence of senior officials of the district administration with strict security measures. From them, money filled in 43 sacks was recovered and taken to the second floor of the mosque for counting. The total amount of donations will be known in the evening after the day-long counting process.
Normally, the donation boxes are opened every three months, but this time they were opened after nearly six months. As a result, there was already widespread curiosity about the amount of donations. This time, in addition to a large amount of cash, gold, silver, and foreign currencies from various countries are also expected to be found.
Mosque authorities said that pious people from home and abroad donate cash, livestock, gold ornaments, silver, and foreign currencies here as offerings, acts of gratitude, and for various purposes. This money is spent on the mosque's development, helping orphans and underprivileged people, and various welfare activities.
The formal counting of donations began at 9:00 AM today. Present on the occasion were District Administrator Sohana Nasrin, Additional Police Superintendent Nazmus Sakib Khan, Member Secretary of the Pagla Mosque Management Committee and Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Kamrul Hasan Maruf, and Rupali Bank AGM Mohammad Ali Hareshi.
A total of about 600 people participated in the counting work. Among them are 406 madrasa students, 14 executive magistrates, 35 teachers and employees, 16 RAB members, 35 police members, 8 Ansar Battalion members, 10 Ansar members, 4 Fire Service members, and 130 bank officers and employees.
Earlier, when the donation boxes were opened after 3 months and 27 days, 35 sacks of money were recovered. At that time, the total amount of donations after counting was Tk 11 crore 78 lakh 48 thousand 538.
Additionally, gold, silver, Saudi riyals, Malaysian ringgits, and foreign currencies from various countries were also found. This time, since donations of nearly six months have accumulated together, those concerned expect that all previous records will be surpassed.
