Khulna City Corporation (KCC) launched a formal investigation into allegations of “ghost workers” after a news report revealed that absent individuals were being marked as present on KCC’s payroll.
On 15 June, KCC formed a three-member probe committee, appointing Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al-Imran as the convener. The move follows a 6 June report published in the Agamir Somoy titled “Absent at Work, Present on Payroll”.
Joining Al-Imran on the committee are Veterinary Officer Peru Gopal Biswas and IT Manager Sheikh Hasan Hasibul Haque.
According to an official letter signed by the KCC secretary, the directive requires the team to submit their findings to the general branch within 10 working days of receiving the letter.
KCC Secretary Md Reza Rashid said, “The work of the investigation committee is ongoing. They will submit the investigation report within the stipulated time. Legal action will be taken against the culprits.”
