With the beginning of the month of Srabon following Ashar, monsoon rains continue across different parts of the country. On Sunday, several districts are also likely to experience intermittent short spells of thunderstorms and rain. Among them, some areas of Rangpur and Sylhet divisions may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The information was provided in a weather forecast issued by the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT) at 11:55 pm on Saturday.
According to the forecast, the sky over most parts of the country may remain partly cloudy to cloudy on Sunday. In particular, the sky over Rangpur Division is expected to remain more heavily clouded throughout the day.
Many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are likely to receive heavy rainfall. At the same time, scattered rain is expected in different areas of Khulna, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Chattogram and Barishal divisions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also forecast in the upstream regions.
Due to the rainfall, temperatures across most parts of the country are expected to remain close to normal on Sunday. However, daytime temperatures may decrease slightly in some northern areas, while remaining nearly unchanged elsewhere. Nighttime temperatures are likely to fall slightly.
During rain free periods, muggy conditions may be felt in several parts of the country. Depending on the location, between three and five hours of normal sunshine may be seen during the day. However, sunshine in the northern region may be even less or may not appear at all.
Meanwhile, a special weather advisory has warned of a moderate to severe risk of thunderstorms across northern parts of the country on Sunday. People have been advised to remain especially cautious if they hear thunder.
Temporary gusty winds may occur before or during rainfall. As the sea remains somewhat rough, vessels operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to navigate with caution.
During the past 24 hours, the country's highest rainfall was recorded at Dimla with 137 millimeters. During the same period, the highest temperature was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 23.2 degrees Celsius in Sylhet.
