Due to the active rain belt ‘Dhara’ across the country, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in 60 to 70 percent of the country today as well. In some places in the Dhaka, Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, continuous heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur.
The Bangladesh Weather Observation Team Limited, a private weather agency, provided the information in its forecast issued on Sunday. The rain belt, which became active on July 5, may remain active until July 13.
According to the weather forecast, the sky over many parts of the country will remain partly cloudy to mostly cloudy today. In particular, cloud cover will be heavier in the northern and eastern regions of the country.
Cloud cover will be comparatively higher in many areas of the Sylhet, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in most areas of the Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Dhaka divisions.
Meanwhile, some areas of the Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions may experience light to moderate rainfall, while heavy rain is possible in some places.
Due to the rainfall, temperatures in most parts of the country will remain relatively comfortable. However, daytime temperatures may rise slightly in some areas, including the Khulna and Barishal divisions, while temperatures elsewhere are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
During breaks in the rainfall, some areas of the Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions may experience humid conditions. Depending on the location, sunshine may be visible for one to five hours today, although the chances of sunshine in the eastern and northern regions of the country are low.
Meanwhile, the northern Bay of Bengal may remain slightly rough. In the past 24 hours, the country’s highest rainfall was recorded in Faridpur at 114 millimeters. During the same period, the highest temperature was recorded in Saidpur at 34.5 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Kumarkhali at 24 degrees Celsius.
Although there is no possibility of a nor’wester today, gusty winds may blow before rainfall begins. However, as there is a risk of light to moderate lightning, people have been advised to remain cautious when they hear thunder. The next rain belt may develop in the country during the latter half of July (the third or fourth week).
In Dhaka, the sun rose at 5:19 am on July 12 and will set at 6:49 pm today. The length of the day is 13 hours and 30 minutes.
