Land official suspended over bribe video in Faridpur

A land official has been temporarily suspended following a video showing him accepting a bribe in Boalmari, Faridpur.
The footage, which shows him taking money from a service seeker, began circulating on social media on Sunday. confirmed the matter
Faridpur Revenue Deputy Collector Insana Tungin Echo confirmed the matter and Deputy Commissioner Md Mazharul Islam issued the suspension order.
The official has been identified as Imran Sheikh, a sub-assistant at the Satair Union Land Office.
The video, which is 2 minutes and 22 seconds long, depicts Imran sitting in a chair and counting money received from a service seeker. In the recording, he is also heard making comments regarding the upazila assistant commissioner (Land).
He was heard saying, “He is also from the 40th BCS, and I am also from the 40th BCS. He was lucky to become a cadre, and I became a non-cadre.”
In response to the allegations, Imransaid, “This is not bribe money; it is a loan. Many people borrow money from me and return it later. The video was recorded during such a loan repayment.”
Following the incident, Mazharul ordered the temporary suspension of Imran under Rule 12(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, citing allegations of misconduct and corruption as per Rules 3(b) and (d).
