Miscreants hung effigies of three National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders at three separate locations in Gangni, Meherpur on Monday.

Gangni Police OC Muhaddid Morshed Chowdhury confirmed the matter and said officers have removed the effigies and are working to identify the miscreants.

Field visits showed that effigies - featuring photographs of NCP leaders Nahid Islam, Hasnat Abdullah, and Sarjis Alam - hanging in front of Gangni Pilot Secondary School, near the RAB camp, and at the local vegetable market.

A message attached to them read, “The country has gone to ruin; resist them; hate them.”

The incident has created a stir in the area, with locals suspecting a specific group may have orchestrated the act to create panic or influence public opinion ahead of the NCP meeting. However, no one could definitively identify those behind it.

NCP Joint Chief Coordinator Shakil Ahmed said, “I believe miscreants who essentially want to erase the spirit of July committed this act. However, no one will succeed by doing such hateful work. The country will move forward by upholding the July spirit.”

He added that law enforcement agencies would investigate and quickly find these miscreants.
