A journalist for the Dainik Dinkal and a government fair price market dealer have filed counter-allegations of assault against each other on Thursday in Shajahanpur, Bogura.
Shahjahanpur Police Station OC Ashik Iqbal confirmed that police are investigating the clash. The journalist has been identified as Sajibul Alam Sajib and the dealer is named Shofiqul Islam Badal.
According to Sajib, the conflict began when he approached Badal to discuss reports of irregularities in product sales. He alleged that an argument ensued, leading Shofiqul’s associates to physically assault him before police and fellow journalists arrived at the scene.
Badal alleged that the journalist attempted to extort him. He said, “Sajib tried to take money by putting his hand in my drawer. I blocked him, and he hit me on the head with a lock that was nearby. Later, when he tried to flee from there, the market people caught him and handed him over to the police.”
Sajib and Badal received treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital but Badal has been discharged.
OC Ashik said, “We are still not sure what happened there. Sajib’s physical condition is unstable. A police operation is underway.”
