Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said that a low-pressure area formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent North Odisha-West Bengal coastal regions.
Maritime ports across the country must now hoist local cautionary signal number 3, according to a weather forecast issued on Thursday.
The low pressure may cause squally winds to blow over maritime ports, the North Bay, and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh. Specifically, the Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra ports have been directed to display local cautionary signal number 3.
The forecast advises fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay to stay near the coast and proceed with caution. Meteorologists noted that the monsoon axis extends through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, the low-pressure center, and southern Bangladesh into Assam.
The monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong elsewhere in the North Bay.
Moreover, many parts of the Chattogram may face temporary gusty winds and light to moderate rain or thundershowers. The forecast also mentions that some locations in Chattogram are likely to experience moderate heavy to very heavy rainfall.
