The Meteorological Department has said that under the influence of the active monsoon wind and a distinct low-pressure in the Bay, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in most parts of the country, today (Wednesday).
A Met official said, Dhaka may experience intermittent rain, but it will not be incessant. Thursday may see similar weather. From Friday, the volume of rainfall may increase further.
Yesterday, rain poured over Dhaka throughout the day. Waterlogging occurred in some areas. Office-goers and those returning from work faced severe hardships. Last night, in various parts of the capital, people returning from work were seen waiting for vehicles, which were scarce. Today, rain is also falling in Dhaka. It started in different areas of the city from the morning. The rain is coming and going intermittently.
Just as Dhaka becomes unbearable in the summer heat, a rainy Dhaka is also far from comfortable. A crisis of vehicles arises. Rickshaw fares increase two to three times. Traffic jams linger at various traffic signals.
Abdul Muhib, a resident of Panthapath, was standing in front of the Karwan Bazar Circle waiting for a bus. He said, "When it rains, the heat decreases. But those of us who live in Dhaka also face suffering. We can't get on buses. Fewer buses are on the roads. Rickshaw and CNG fares also double. This is very unfortunate. I haven't been able to get on a bus for a long time now. Buses are scarce, and those that do come are already full."
The Met predicted active monsoon wind and a distinct low-pressure in the Bay of Bengal, the parts of the country may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. There is also a risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places. For this reason, the country's seaports have been asked to display local cautionary signal number three.
Meteorologist Md. Abdul Hamid Mia said, "Today, Wednesday, Dhaka may experience intermittent rain, but it will not be continuous. Thursday may see similar weather. From Friday, the amount of rainfall may increase further."
