Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested six individuals over the death of Bobi Begum, an elderly woman with special needs, at the Methikanda Railway Station in Narsingdi.
RAB Legal and Media Wing confirmed the matter in a press conference on Friday.
RAB-11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Mohammad Masud Parvez said miscreants entered an abandoned room at the railway station and attacked Bobi on 4 July. They beat her and looted around Tk 40,000 she had saved over a long period.
Station staff eventually rescued her and admitted her to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex. She was brought back to the station after receiving primary treatment.
Lt Col Masud added that her physical condition deteriorated, leading her to be taken back to the hospital on 7 July. She was then referred to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment, but she died in the ambulance before reaching the hospital.
According to locals, Bobi lived at the railway station for about two decades. She performed various cleaning duties, including cleaning the platform and toilets, without receiving any salary. The station authorities had arranged for her to stay in an abandoned room.
People living near the station and passengers regularly provided her with food and financial assistance. She had saved some money over the past 20 to 25 years.
