State Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit said the government has adopted a plan in such a way that no affected family is deprived of relief and rehabilitation assistance.
He made these remarks after distributing relief among flood victims in Jhilongjha, Cox’s Bazar Sadar on Tuesday.
Amit added that not only is relief being distributed, but rehabilitation activities have also commenced by quickly listing the damages under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He said, “Following a review of every aspect of the relief and rehabilitation plan at a coordination meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday, a decision has been made to provide additional allocations to each upazila. Repairing houses, roads, and infrastructure, and revitalizing the affected agriculture and fisheries sectors is our current primary goal.”
Amit added, “Living at the foot of hills is extremely risky. Plans have been taken for their permanent rehabilitation by providing land and constructing houses in alternative locations. At the same time, the government is taking strict action against those involved in illegal hill cutting or occupation; no one will be spared.”
Regarding the long-term protection of the coastal region, Amit mentioned that he has had discussions with the State Minister of Water Resources concerning the repair of damaged sluice gates and embankments. An initiative for a quick permanent solution will be taken following a field inspection within the next one to two weeks.
He said coordinated efforts by the Army, Navy, Air Force, BGB, Coast Guard, and various private organizations, led by the district and upazila administrations, are ongoing to ensure transparency and dynamism in relief and rehabilitation activities.
Among others present at the relief distribution ceremony were MP Lutfur Rahman Kajal, Additional DIG of Chattogram Range Md Nazimul Huq, Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan, and Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman.
