On the last working day of the week, although the benchmark index of the country's premier stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose, the overall turnover picture showed a slight slump.

As the price gains of most listed companies played a positive role on Thursday, the volume of cash flow in the market by the end of the day decreased considerably compared to the previous session.

At the close of trading, all major DSE indices—including the main index, the Shariah index, and the blue-chip index—recorded gains. According to DSE data, the benchmark DSEX index rose 16 points to settle at 5,895 points. Among other indices, the Shariah index DSES gained 3 points to 1,195 points, and the DSE-30 index rose 6 points to 2,217 points.

While most companies and mutual funds that traded saw their prices rise, several others ended up on the losing list. A few companies' share prices remained unchanged.

Despite the overall index gains, turnover figures fell behind the previous trading day. Total turnover at the DSE today stood at Tk 1,043.43 crore. In the previous session, turnover was Tk 1,342.51 crore—meaning that in a single day, transaction volume dropped by Tk 299.08 crore.

On the other hand, the positive trend continued at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) as well. The CSE's broad index CASPI rose 51 points to 15,764. Among the 239 traded companies, 107 advanced, 99 declined, and 33 remained unchanged. Total shares and units worth Tk 46.15 crore were traded on the CSE at the end of the day.

On Thursday's DSE turnover list, Sayham Textile Mills Ltd dominated the top spot with the highest volume of shares traded. Techno Drugs and Dominage Steel Building Systems Ltd held strong positions just behind.

Other notable turnover contributors included Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Sayham Cotton Mills, Summit Alliance Port, Far East Knitting, IT Consultants, Argon Denims, and Beximco Ltd.

In terms of price gains, Beximco Ltd delivered the most impressive performance of the day, climbing to the top of the gainers' list amid heavy trading. They were closely followed by Exim Bank First Mutual Fund and Sena Insurance. Additionally, United Insurance, Phoenix Finance 1st Mutual Fund, Sayham Textile, and several other mutual funds ended the day on a positive note.

On the downside, Far East Finance and Investment Ltd suffered the biggest losses, sinking to the bottom of the decliners' list. They were joined by Premier Leasing and South Bangla Bank. Other losing companies included Prime Finance, Renwick Yajneshwar, Tung Hai Knitting, Nurani Dyeing, Sikder Insurance, Northern Islamic Insurance, and Hamid Fabrics.
