Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) has officially begun its journey in the retail business to make daily shopping in urban life easier and faster. The company has simultaneously launched new outlets of Fresh Super Mart at nine stations of Dhaka's metro rail MRT Line-6 and in the Gulshan-1 neighbourhood.
The outlet of Fresh Super Mart, located at House 48, Road 34 in Gulshan-1, was inaugurated by MGI's Chairman and Managing Director, Mostafa Kamal.
Present on the occasion were MGI directors Tahmina Mostafa, Tanjima Mostafa, Tanvir Mostafa, and Barrister Tasnim Mostafa; Senior Executive Director Tayef Bin Yusuf; Executive Director and Head of Export Samira Rahman; Washikur Rahman; Rashik Chowdhury; along with other senior officials of the organization.
In addition to the Gulshan outlet, new branches of Fresh Super Mart have been launched at the metro rail stations of Motijheel, Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka University, Mirpur-10, Mirpur-11, Pallabi, Uttara Center, Uttara North C Gate, and Uttara North D Gate. Earlier, three outlets were opened on a trial basis at Tejgaon, Meghnaghat, and Meghna Industrial Economic Zone (MIEZ).
During the outlet inauguration, the MGI Chairman and Managing Director noted that urban life in Bangladesh is changing rapidly, and people's shopping habits have also transformed.
Mostafa Kamal said, "Fresh Super Mart has been launched with the goal that customers can easily, quickly, and access quality products during their daily commute." He expressed confidence that "it will set a new standard in the country's retail sector."
The MGI Chairman expressed satisfaction that MGI has been operating as a trusted name for quality products in Bangladeshi households for over 50 years. He noted that this initiative to deliver MGI's branded products directly to customers will also play a role in creating employment.
Highlighting the potential of the country's retail market, he noted that the share of modern supermarkets and brand-based retail outlets in Bangladesh is still less than five percent. The organization is working to reduce this gap. Initially, there are plans to launch another 50 outlets across the country.
It is known that Fresh Super Mart has introduced a concept different from existing supermarkets and hypermarkets in the country. Small-scale outlets have been set up to deliver essential products along the paths of busy people. This model is already popular in cities such as Tokyo, Seoul, and Singapore.
Currently, MRT Line-6 transports approximately 400,000 passengers daily. After its expansion to Kamalapur, this number is expected to exceed 500,000. As a result, a huge number of passengers will have the opportunity to use Fresh Super Mart's services each day.
Each outlet will offer dairy and frozen food products, daily essentials, grocery items, household goods, health and hygiene products, cosmetics, and over-the-counter medicines. Additionally, there will be an in-store café where customers can enjoy coffee and various snacks. Alongside Fresh brand products, various local and international brands will also be sold.
Fresh Super Mart is entering Bangladesh's retail market at a promising time. According to various studies, the country's retail market will grow at an average rate of 7.3 percent until 2031. However, the share of the modern retail market is still less than five percent of total trade. According to a forecast by international bank HSBC Global Research, Bangladesh will become the world's ninth-largest consumer market by 2030.
