Chairman of Meghna Group of Industries Mostafa Kamal
Speaking about the historic Mohammedan Club, Meghna Group of Industries Chairman Mostafa Kamal said, “I was not fully involved with the club. I could not attend all the meetings. Since President Barrister Barakat Ullah Bulu, MP, asked me to take on the role, I did not have the courage to ignore it. I humbly requested it. I have been with Mohammedan Club for nearly 21 to 22 years, from 2006 until now. I will remain with you.”
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Mohammedan Club building in Motijheel, Dhaka, on Thursday.
Mostafa Kamal said, “Our president mentioned that Mohammedan is the most historic club in the subcontinent. This club is now divided into three parts, in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. We all know that it was a football centered club. Wherever games were played in our villages and towns, there were two names, Mohammedan and Abahani. In terms of supporters, just as Argentina and Brazil flags are flown from homes today, back then it was Mohammedan versus Abahani.
“This historic club and the people of Bangladesh who love football. You see during the World Cup, no matter how many games are played, people stay awake all night to watch football. There is no doubt that football is a source of immense passion for spectators in this country. I would request everyone who is involved with the game here today to try wholeheartedly. Who will lose and who will become champion is in Allah’s hands. We supporters will hope that our players give their very best. The people of the country are waiting to watch the game. I hope that by giving our best, we will restore Mohammedan’s legacy,” he added.
