Nomination papers filed for Oli Ahmad in presidential poll

The nomination paper of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Oli Ahmad has been submitted as the candidate in the presidential election.
Hamidur Rahman Azad, the coordinator of the 11-party alliance and assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, visited Election Commission (EC) to submit the nomination on behalf of Oli on Thursday.
In the nomination, Opposition Leader and Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman is listed as the proposer for Oli. Abdullah Al Amin, a MP from the National Citizen Party (NCP), is acting as the supporter.
Earlier, former president Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned and Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad took over as the acting president.
Following his resignation, preparations for the presidential election began, and EC announced the schedule.
According to the schedule, voting will take place on 20 August from 2 pm to 5 pm in the National Parliament. 13 August is the final day for filing nomination papers for the election.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on 16 August, while the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is 18 August.
