A video has recently been circulated on social media with the claim, “After two years of silence, Sheikh Hasina appeared publicly in ‘Delhi’ for the first time.”
However, an investigation by Agamir Somoy found that the claim is not correct. The video does not show Sheikh Hasina appearing publicly in Delhi recently. It is an old video from October 2019 showing a meeting between former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi.Source of the Video and Investigation
A reverse image search using a still image from the video found the footage in a report published on October 6, 2019, on the official YouTube channel of Indian news outlet Hindustan Times, titled ‘Overdue hug’: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on meeting Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina.”
The report said that Sheikh Hasina, who was the prime minister of Bangladesh at the time, met senior leaders of India’s National Congress party during her visit to India in October 2019. During the visit, Sheikh Hasina held a courtesy meeting with then interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Later, searches using relevant keywords confirmed reports about the incident published by multiple mainstream Indian news outlets, including NDTV and Aaj Tak.
Therefore, after analyzing the available information and evidence, it is clear that the video being circulated with the claim that Sheikh Hasina has appeared publicly in India after two years is not from a recent event. Old footage of a courtesy meeting from 2019 is being shared online with a misleading caption, spreading deceptive information.
