Green chili tops Tk 180 as vegetable prices surge

The prices of most vegetables in markets have risen above Tk 70-80 kg. Among these, the price of green chili is nearly touching Tk 200 per kg and the prices of other vegetables are also hovering close-Tk 100 per kg.
A visit-various markets in Dhaka on Friday revealed that green chilies are sold at Tk 160-180 per kg, eggplant at Tk 90-120, cucumber at Tk 120-130, bitter gourd at Tk 80-100, pointed gourd and okra at Tk 70-80, and ridge gourd at Tk 80-90.
Moreover, snake gourd is sold at Tk 70-80 per kg, radish at Tk 40-50, and papaya at Tk 30-40. In the spice market, local garlic is selling for Tk 100-140 per kg and onions for Tk 35-45.
In the rice market, the fine rice (Nazir/Miniket) is sold at Tk 72-85 per kg, coarse rice at Tk 50-60, Pyjam and Lata rice at Tk 55-68.
In the protein market, broiler chicken is sold at Tk 180-200 per kg, sonali chicken at Tk 320-350, and farm-produced brown eggs at Tk 40-45 for four pieces.
