Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has offered some relief amid persistent price pressures in the market. According to the agency’s latest data, the national point-to-point inflation rate fell to 9.16 percent in June from 9.42 percent in May.
The BBS monthly inflation report shows that inflation declined in both the food and non-food sectors during June. Food inflation dropped to 8.60 percent, down from 9.06 percent in May. Non-food inflation also edged down, falling to 9.61 percent in June from 9.71 percent a month earlier.
However, the inflation picture remains higher than it was a year ago. BBS data show that overall inflation stood at 8.48 percent in June last year, compared with 9.16 percent in June this year.
Food inflation also increased significantly on a year-on-year basis. It rose from 7.39 percent in June 2025 to 8.60 percent in June 2026. Similarly, non-food inflation increased from 9.37 percent to 9.61 percent over the same period.
Meanwhile, the 12-month moving average inflation rate showed improvement. According to BBS calculations, average inflation for the period from July 2025 to June 2026 stood at 8.68 percent. During the corresponding period a year earlier, from July 2024 to June 2025, the average rate was 10.03 percent. The annual average inflation rate therefore declined compared with the previous year.
The BBS report showed a different trend in wage growth. The wage rate index fell to 8.18 percent in June from 8.21 percent in May. In the agricultural sector, wage growth stood at 8.21 percent, down from 8.22 percent a month earlier. The rate in the industrial sector declined to 8.11 percent from 8.15 percent, while the services sector recorded wage growth of 8.34 percent in June, compared with 8.36 percent in May.
