HSC examinees staged protests at Dhaka’s Science Lab and Uttara areas on Tuesday to demand the resignation of the Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
Students began gathering in the Science Lab area on 11 am. Later, around 12 pm, they chanted various slogans demanding the education minister step down.
New Market Police Station Officer said, “All our officer forces are at the scene to keep the situation under control.”
Meanwhile, students blocked the road in front of the BNS Center in Uttara to carry out their protest. Vehicular movement came to a halt after students took to the streets at 12 pm.
Uttara East Police Station Officer added, “The students are being persuaded and requested to leave the road. Our senior officials are at the scene.”
During the demonstration, examinees were chanting slogans such as: “One point, one demand - Milan’s resignation. Who am I, who are you? Factory-farmed chicken, factory-farmed chicken.”
Students have raised allegations against the Education Minister for continuing the HSC and equivalent examinations during disastrous weather conditions and for allegedly referring to the students as “factory-farmed chickens”.
Earlier, students from Dhaka College published a flyer for the program on a Facebook page named “College Network”. Then the same program was promoted on various college-based Facebook pages.
The three-point demands announced in the flyer include:
- Suspending HSC exams until the disaster situation completely returns to normal.
- Providing a re-examination opportunity for students who were unable to attend the July 13 exam due to adverse weather.
- The resignation of the education minister within the next 24 hours.
