Appellate Division has postponed the hearing on the appeal against the High Court verdict that ordered a separate independent secretariat for the Supreme Court within three months.
Following an application by Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, the court fixed 1 September as the new date for the hearing. The court also stayed the High Court verdict pending the disposal of the appeal.
A five-member Appellate Bench led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury issued the order on Tuesday. Earlier, on 9 June, the court had fixed 16 June for the appeal hearing, which is why the case appeared on today’s cause list.
On 2 September, a High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury delivered the verdict directing an independent secretariat for the Supreme Court within three months.
The 185-page full text of the judgement was published on 7 April.
