Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Information Advisor Zahed Ur Rahman said that India’s immigration officials did not behave appropriately and he has returned home in protest.
He made these remarks at a press conference on Tuesday.
Zahed added, “I went to India not as an individual, but as part of the state and government. However, this unwanted incident at the airport will not affect the relationship between the two countries.”
Earlier, on Sunday, he left Dhaka to attend an event of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in India.
However, upon arriving at Delhi airport, he faced obstacles from the immigration authorities. After being made to wait for two and a half hours without any explanation, he eventually returned to Dhaka without entering Delhi.
In view of the incident, Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe was summoned to the Ministry in Dhaka. Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed strong dissatisfaction over the incident at Delhi airport.
