Attorney General’s Office issued show-cause notices to four Deputy Attorney Generals (DAGs) on Sunday evening for allegedly intimidating and threatening Attorney General (AG) Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal.
Administrative Officer Md Nasir Uddin confirmed the matter. The four officials facing the notice are Md Zahirul Islam, Md. Rafiqul Islam Mantu, Muhammad Masud Rana, and Md Asikuzzaman Nazrul.
The notice said that at 1:45 pm on Sunday, while Ruhul was working in his office, the four DAGs behaved unsuitably toward him in the presence of litigants and other law officers.
They reportedly issued various types of intimidation and threats, warning that unwanted incidents would occur. The office’s CCTV footage recorded the entire incident.
According to the show-cause notice, such actions constitute serious misconduct and an obstruction of government duties.
Consequently, the authorities have directed the four officials to submit a written response within three working days explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.
Zahirul said that he saw the notice on social media but denied the allegations.
He told Agamir Somoy, “Several Deputy Attorney Generals have not been assigned specific courts for a long time. They spoke with the Attorney General about this issue at noon. No threats or intimidation were made. The statement in the notice is incorrect.”
