Tarique Seeks China’s Support for Friendship Hospital

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman requested China’s support for key national development projects and the construction of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital during a high-level meeting in Beijing.
The appeal came during a courtesy call from Minister of International Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Liu Haixing at the State Diaoyutai Guest House at 9:15 am local time, reports BSS.
At the start of the session, Liu congratulated Tarique on his appointment as PM. He underscored the historical ties between the two nations, noting that former PM Khaleda Zia visited China nine times.
He highlighted that a photograph from her 2001 visit remains preserved in the Museum of the Communist Party of China in her honor.
The discussions also focused on the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the BNP and the CPC. Liu expressed a strong interest in expanding cooperation and communication between the two political parties.
He identified several potential growth areas for the future, including think-tanks, media, people-to-people contact, and initiatives aimed at improving living standards.
Reaffirming Beijing’s stance, Liu described China as a strong supporter of Bangladesh’s sovereignty, security and development. He stressed the importance of advancing bilateral relations through mutual respect and cooperation.
In response, Tarique expressed his desire for continued collaboration, stating he hoped that the legacy of the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries would continue.
Liu mirrored this optimism, noting he was hopeful that the people of Bangladesh would enjoy a better life under the leadership of Tarique.
Several high-ranking officials attended the meeting, including Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, and Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir.
Also present were State Ministers M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Aninda Islam Amit, Spokesperson Mahdi Amin, Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, CPC Vice Minister Sun Haiyan, and the Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka.
