Switzerland secured the spot in Group B after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Canada at BC Place.
While Switzerland celebrated the win, Canada also made history by qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout stages for the first time.
The result means Switzerland will stay in Vancouver for their Round of 32 match on 2 July, where they will play a third-place team from Group E, F, G, I, or J. Canada, finishing as runners-up, must now head to Los Angeles for a June 28 fixture against the Group A runners-up.
After a scoreless first half, Switzerland took control just 40 seconds into the second period. Juan Vargas connected with a low cross from Johan Manzambi to slot a finish into the bottom corner.
Manzambi then increased the lead in the 57th minute, driving a low shot past goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau for his third goal of the finals.
Canada refused to surrender and launched a late comeback. Substitute Promise David scored with his first touch in the 76th minute, just two minutes after coming onto the field.
Despite a late offensive surge from the co-hosts, Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made a crucial save from a David header to secure the three points.
Earlier in the match, Maxime Crepeau and Derek Cornelius combined to deny Breel Embolo and Manzambi in the 11th minute.
Canada's best first-half chances came through Cyle Larin and Ali Ahmed, but their low strikes did not seriously challenge Kobel.
