Prime Minister Visits Graves of Officers Killed in BDR Mutiny

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has visited the graves of army officers killed in the BDR mutiny. At around 9:15 am on Thursday, the Prime Minister and his wife Zubaida Rahman went to the Banani Military Cemetery.
At the cemetery, the Prime Minister, accompanied by his wife, first visited the grave of his father-in-law, former Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan. They offered prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul.
They then proceeded to the graveyard area of the officers killed in the BDR mutiny. Standing in front of the memorial, they took part in a special prayer session, seeking forgiveness and eternal peace for the victims.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Social Welfare Minister AZM Jahid Hossain and Local Government State Minister Mir Shah-e-Alam were present at the time.
During the February 25-26, 2009 mutiny at the Pilkhana headquarters in Dhaka, then Bangladesh Rifles, now Border Guard Bangladesh, experienced a deadly uprising. The incident left 57 army officers, including then Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed, dead. A total of 74 people were killed. Most of the slain officers were buried at the Banani Military Cemetery.
