10 Bangladeshis Die During Hajj This Year

Ten Bangladeshi pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia while performing this year’s Hajj. Among them are eight men and two women. Eight died in Makkah and two in Madinah.
The information was confirmed on Wednesday (May 6) through the death-related data on the Hajj Management Portal of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
According to the portal, the first death of this year’s Hajj season occurred on April 21, when 75-year-old Md. Naim Uddin Mandal of Joypurhat died. Md. Abul Kashem (70) of Tangail died on April 22. Md. Serajul Haque (66) of Mymensingh’s Pagla died on April 25, followed by Md. Khalilur Rahman (64) of Dinajpur’s Birampur on April 26.
On April 27, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun (58) of Sherpur’s Sribordi and Md. Abdul Hai (61) of Jamalpur’s Madarganj died. Md. Shamsul Alam (63) of Rangpur’s Kotwali Metro died on April 28.
Later, Mahfuza Begum (52) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model and Md. Nasir Uddin Biswas (58) of Faridpur Sadar died on May 3. Mo. Nilufa Begum (57) of Thakurgaon’s Haripur died on May 4.
Under Saudi Arabian law, the bodies of pilgrims who die during Hajj are buried in the country. The remains are not allowed to be repatriated, and objections from family members are not accepted.
This year’s Hajj is scheduled to take place on May 26, subject to moon sighting. Flights for Bangladeshi pilgrims to Saudi Arabia began on April 18 and will continue until May 21. Return flights will start on May 30 after the Hajj, with the final return flight scheduled for June 30.
