Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has visited the grave of Md Wasim Akram, the first martyr from the Chattogram Division in the 2024 mass uprising.

On Saturday afternoon, the Prime Minister personally drove to Wasim’s ancestral home in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar. He was accompanied by his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, and his wife Hasina Ahmed.

According to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing, after offering prayers at the grave, he spoke with the martyr’s parents and brother and expressed sympathy to the family. Later, he handed over savings certificates worth 2 million taka to the family of the martyr.

Md Wasim was killed on July 16, 2024, during the anti-discrimination movement when he was shot during an attack on protesting students in Chattogram’s Bahaddarhat area. He was the joint convener of the Chattogram College Jatiyatabadi Chatradal unit.

Wasim’s father is Shafiul Alam. He was the second of five siblings.
