Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, "In this budget, we have tried to provide some relief to the underprivileged. Duties on 61 essential commodities have been withdrawn. As a result, unlike other years, the prices of essential goods did not increase before or after the budget this year. We have been able to provide some relief to the people."
He made these remarks today (Monday, June 29) during the second session of the Thirteenth National Parliament.
"Although there is consensus on some issues and disagreement on others between the government and the opposition in this House, we have been able to instill hope among the people. However, we have talked more about the past than the future in parliament. But the people want us to talk about the future," the Prime Minister said during the session.
The head of government added, "It is because of the people of this country that we are able to come to parliament and play a role in moving the nation forward. The previous government imposed a huge burden of foreign debt to implement projects. The people will have to bear this burden for many years."
He further said, "This year's budget is not just an annual income-expenditure account; through it, we want to build a foundation for the economy. The goal of the budget is to build a fair, humane, and inclusive economy. It is a budget aimed at alleviating the cost of living burden on low-income people. The main objective of this budget is to gradually restore discipline to the economy."
He pointed out that the goal of the budget is to stimulate the wheels of the economy by creating investment, production, and employment. "We have resource constraints. Therefore, a long-term investment plan has been made. The development budget has been increased by 50,000 crore taka."
The Prime Minister said , the government wants to spend the people's money on the people's welfare. The government wants to restructure the economy in three phases: recovery, transition, and reconstruction.
