Renowned Islamic Thinker Maulana Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi Passes Away

Maulana Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi, a prominent Islamic thinker, researcher, and author of numerous widely-read books in the subcontinent, has passed away. He breathed his last on Monday (June 29) while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lucknow, India. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. He was 72 years old at the time of his death.
Maulana Salman Nadwi was born in 1954 into a traditional scholarly family in Lucknow, India. His lineage is said to trace back to Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In his childhood, he completed the memorization (Hifz) of the Holy Quran at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama. Later, he earned his bachelor's degree from the same institution in 1974 and a master's degree in Hadith studies in 1976.
For higher education, he enrolled at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Saudi Arabia. There, under the supervision of the renowned Muhaddith Sheikh Abdul Fattah Abu Ghuddah (RA), he obtained another master's degree in Hadith research in 1980.
Upon returning to his home country, he joined Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama as a teacher. Subsequently, he served for a long time as the Dean of the Da'wah and Shariah faculty at the institution. Numerous students from home and abroad were trained in Islamic education and research under his guidance.
Alongside teaching, he was a distinguished researcher, author, and academic. Many of his books have been published in Arabic and Urdu on Islamic creed, Hadith, history, and various contemporary issues. He was one of the co-founders of the youth organization Jamiat Shababul Islam. Additionally, he served as Chairman of Dr. Abdul Ali Unani Medical College and Hospital, and as Chancellor of Darul Uloom Syed Ahmad Shaheed. He also played a notable role in establishing and developing medical, engineering, and IT educational institutions in India.
Maulana Salman Nadwi was well known for his outspoken positions on contemporary religious, social, and international issues. His statements, particularly on various crises in the Muslim world and international politics, garnered widespread attention both domestically and abroad.
