Bangladeshi engineers living in Australia gathered in Sydney this weekend to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). Organized by the IEB Overseas Chapter (Australia), the “Meet and Greet Gala Night” at the Campsie West Function Centre brought together professionals from across the country for an evening of networking, knowledge-sharing, and cultural exchange.

The event attracted a large number of Bangladeshi engineers, creating a platform for professional engagement while reinforcing their connection to Bangladesh.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Bangladesh Consul General in Sydney Shili Saleheen praised the contributions of Bangladeshi engineers working abroad.

“The professional excellence and achievements of our engineers overseas are a source of immense pride for Bangladesh,” she said, urging members of the diaspora to contribute their global expertise, technical knowledge, and experience to the country’s development.

A key focus of the evening was strengthening professional collaboration and expanding opportunities for innovation. Representatives of the IEB Overseas Chapter and officials from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia emphasized the importance of building stronger professional networks and creating platforms to support and mentor the next generation of engineers.

One of the highlights of the event was the participation of a delegation from the School of Engineering at the University of Wollongong. The delegation outlined potential areas for collaboration in renewable energy, technology transfer, and academic research in Bangladesh, drawing significant interest from attendees.

The event was coordinated by Mashiur Rahman Munna, General Secretary of the IEB Overseas Chapter (Australia), and Executive Member Sohel Iqbal. Shafiq Shuvo and Mohammad Yusuf moderated the program.

Following the formal session, guests enjoyed a cultural segment featuring poetry recitations, musical performances, and dance. The evening concluded with a gala dinner and a raffle draw.

In his closing remarks, Abdus Shukur Khan, Chairman of the IEB Overseas Chapter (Australia), highlighted the organization's growing international role.

“The IEB is more than a professional body; it serves as a global bridge for the innovative spirit of Bangladeshi engineers,” he said. “I am confident that these initiatives will continue to strengthen technological exchange and create new investment opportunities between Australia and Bangladesh.”

The gala underscored the unity and growing influence of the Bangladeshi engineering diaspora, celebrating past achievements while fostering stronger professional ties and future collaboration between the two countries.
