National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) approved the establishment of three new upazilas and one new police station.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presided over the 121st NICAR meeting on Wednesday, held in the Cabinet Division’s conference room at the Secretariat. PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu confirmed the matter.
The three new upazilas are Fatikchhari North in Chattogram, Bangra in Cumilla, and Pagla in Mymensingh. Moreover, Halda has been approved as a new thana in Chattogram.
According to the NICAR proposal, the Fatickchhari North upazila consists of six unions carved out of the existing Fatickchhari upazila in Chattogram. In Cumilla, the Bangra upazila was formed by splitting Muradnagar upazila, while the Pagla upazila in Mymensingh was established using eight unions from the Pagla police station under Gafargaon upazila.
Moreover, the Halda police station was created by dividing the Hathazari police station in Chattogram.
The meeting also resulted in a significant administrative shift for Dhaka. Shiplu said, “It has been decided to include the Narayanganj and Gazipur district portions of the Purbachal New Town project area, under RAJUK, into Dhaka district.”
The delegation attending the meeting included LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir.
Other attendees were Law Minister Asaduzzaman, Road Minister Rabiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakaria Taher, and State Minister of Public Administration Abdul Bari. The meeting also featured Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani and Principal Secretary to the PM ABM Abdus Sattar, alongside secretaries from the ministries.
