The DNA testing has been completed in the case involving the rape and murder of 8-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur, in the capital. Today, Saturday, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) handed over the DNA report to the investigating officer.
The case's investigating officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ahiduzzaman of Pallabi Police Station, said, it is likely that submission of charge sheet to the could take place tomorrow, (Sunday).
A senior official of CID confirmed the handover of the DNA report to the media.
On May 19, police recovered the headless body of child Ramisa from the flat next to hers. The child was raped that day and then killed by decapitation with a sharp weapon.
After the incident, the perpetrator, Sohel Rana, who raped and murdered Ramisa, fled. Police later arrested his wife, Swapna. The following day, Sohel was also arrested from Narayanganj. Later, Sohel Rana gave a confessional statement before the court.
According to case sources, Ramisa was a second-grade student at Popular Model High School. On Tuesday (May 19), when she left her room around 9:30 AM, the accused Sohel Rana's wife, Swapna, lured her inside their room. Around 10:30 AM that day, her mother began searching for Ramisa to send her to school.
At one point, the mother saw the child's shoes in front of the accused's room. After receiving no response to their calls, Ramisa's parents and other residents of the building broke down the door and entered. They then found Ramisa's headless body on the floor of the accused's bedroom and her head inside a large bucket in the room.
After receiving a call to the national emergency service 999, police arrived at the scene and took Swapna into custody. With the help of information technology, police arrested Sohel Rana from in front of Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj district.
That day, during the afternoon, the investigating officer produced them before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka and filed two separate petitions. One petition sought to record the confessional statement of the accused Sohel, and the other requested that Sohel's wife, Swapna, be held in jail custody.
In his confessional statement, Sohel said that around 9:30 AM on May 19, when Ramisa left her room, his wife Swapna Akter took her inside their room. Subsequently, Sohel took little Ramisa to the bathroom and raped her. Meanwhile, Ramisa's mother started knocking on the door. At that point, Sohel killed her by slitting her throat. Later, to dispose of the body, he severed her head from the neck using a sharp knife. He then partially severed both arms at the shoulders and moved the body from the bathroom to the bedroom, placing it under the bed.
His wife was in the same room during the incident. Sohel later fled after cutting the window grille. The accused told the court that he had no prior enmity with the victim's family.
Meanwhile, various quarters have demanded the strictest punishment for the accused, Sohel Rana and his wife, in the shortest possible time for this brutality against Ramisa. Following these demands, the Pallabi area remained tense throughout the day yesterday, Friday.
In the midst of this, today, Saturday, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, while inaugurating a canal excavation program in Mymensingh, said that the trial in the Ramisa murder case would be completed within one month. He also stated that the highest punishment for the criminals would be ensured.
