A court set 20 August for the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam scheduled the new date on Wednesday. With the latest extension, the submission of the investigation report has now been delayed 18 times.
The investigating officer of the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Quadir Bhuiyan of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), failed to submit any report to the court. Consequently, the court fixed a new date for the submission.
According to case records, on 12 December 2025, Hadi concluded his election campaign after performing Friday prayers in Motijheel. While he was traveling toward Suhrawardy Udyan around 2:20 pm, his autorickshaw reached Box Culvert, Paltan.
At that time, miscreants on a motorcycle shot him with the intent to kill before fleeing the scene. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.
Following surgery, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital. Later, on 15 December, he was sent to Singapore for advanced medical treatment, where he passed away on 18 December.
The case was then converted into a murder investigation. Following the initial investigation, the Detective Branch (DB) of the police submitted a charge sheet on 6 January against 17 individuals, including former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and Faisal Karim Masud.
However, Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, expressed dissatisfaction with the charge sheet provided by the DB and filed a “naraji” (no-confidence) petition on 15 January.
After a hearing, the court granted the petition and directed the CID to conduct a further investigation.
