The Iranian Ministry of Health has reported that at least 14 people were killed and 78 others injured in devastating US attacks across five provinces in Iran over the past 48 hours. The US initiated these new attacks, breaking a memorandum of understanding signed just last month.
Hossein Kermanpour, head of the Public Relations and Information Center of the Iranian Ministry of Health, wrote on the social media platform X that the US carried out attacks in five Iranian provinces on July 8 and 9, killing 14 people. Among those injured in the attacks, 47 are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Iran's state news agency IRNA reported that Waliullah Hayati, the Deputy Governor of Khuzestan province, confirmed three people lost their lives in an attack near the southwestern city of Ahvaz.
Washington launched this military operation following allegations of Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that they struck more than 170 military installations over the two days.
These targets included air defense systems, coastal surveillance equipment, missile and drone infrastructure, and various facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). CENTCOM claimed this action was taken to prevent further attacks on international shipping.
In retaliation, Iran claimed to have launched drone and missile strikes targeting US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Previously, on June 17, the two countries had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mediated by Pakistan, aimed at halting military conflict and paving the way for a permanent peace agreement.
However, last Wednesday, US President Donald Trump declared the memorandum of understanding to be "dead," officially ending the agreement and triggering the start of a new military conflict. (Source: Anadolu Agency)
