Five people were killed in a shooting in the northern German city of Stade, authorities said.
A police spokesperson told the BBC that two people have been detained in connection with the incident. One of them is being treated as the primary suspect.
Police said there is no longer any threat to the public.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many people were injured. A police spokesperson said all of the victims who died were adults.
Local media reported that the shooting took place near a youth center in downtown Stade. However, the police spokesperson denied that report and declined to provide further details.
A large number of police officers and emergency responders have been deployed to the scene. In a post on social media, police urged local residents to avoid the area.
Stade, a city of about 50,000 residents, is located west of Hamburg.
While some media outlets reported that multiple suspects may have been involved, police did not immediately comment on those reports.
