International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam on Monday described former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's reported desire to return to Bangladesh as political theater.
“We also want Sheikh Hasina to return. If she has the courage, she should come back to Bangladesh and face trial over the July massacre,” Aminul told reporters at his office.
He said the tribunal is currently hearing 24 cases. The prosecution has also received investigation reports in 10 cases related to the July killings involving Shahjahan Khan, Amir Hossain Amu, Justice Manik and others.
According to Aminul, the reports are being reviewed and will soon be submitted to the tribunal as formal charges.
Sheikh Hasina fled to India on Aug. 5, 2024, amid a mass uprising. The International Crimes Tribunal later sentenced her to death in a case involving crimes against humanity.
