Multiple powerful explosions rock Syrian military facility

At least four people were injured in powerful explosions at an arms depot in northern Syria, the country's state media reported. Following the explosions, civilians were warned to stay away from the area.
The first explosion occurred early Monday morning at a Syrian military facility near the Al-Eis area, south of the city of Aleppo. A series of explosions followed. The cause of the blasts was not immediately known.
Faisal Mohammad Ali, head of civil defense operations in Aleppo, said rescuers had evacuated four injured people from the scene. However, ongoing explosions made it difficult for emergency services and rescue teams to reach the site.
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents to remain indoors for the time being. He said hospitals, ambulances, and emergency response teams had been placed on alert.
Aleppo's Internal Security Command said roads leading to the explosion site had been closed to ensure public safety.
Al Jazeera correspondent Obaida Hitto, reporting from Aleppo, said several more explosions occurred after the initial blast. The sound of the explosions could be heard from several kilometers away. Ambulances and fire engines were seen heading toward the scene.
A resident of Aleppo's Hamdaniyeh district told a media outlet that he heard a “massive explosion.” He later went up to the roof of his home and saw huge flames in the distance.
Several explosions have occurred recently at weapons and ammunition depots across Syria. The country is now navigating a new phase after more than a decade of civil war.
A new political situation emerged in Syria after longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad was ousted from power in late 2024.
On Friday, 11 people were killed in an explosion of unknown origin at a military facility in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor.
Earlier this month, 14 people were killed and 11 injured in an explosion at a Defense Ministry weapons depot in the northwestern province of Idlib.
A week before that, five people were killed when a vehicle carrying ammunition exploded in the same area.
