Apratim refused to hand over iPhone and was beaten to death with bamboo stick

Police said Ishayat Shahriar Apratim was killed after he refused to hand over his iPhone. He was beaten with a bamboo stick.
Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md. Anisuzzaman disclosed the information at a briefing on Sunday afternoon.
The superintendent of police said, “First, we took Tuhin into custody as a suspect. After questioning him, we learned Fahad’s name. Later, Fahad disclosed Kamrul’s name.”
Anisuzzaman said questioning revealed that the iPhone was at Tuhin’s house. Police went there and recovered the phone from under the mattress in Tuhin’s room.
Speaking about the motive for the murder, the police official said Apratim was taken to the hilly area of Sananda primarily to snatch his iPhone. At that time, Tuhin asked Apratim for the phone but he refused to hand it over. A scuffle then broke out. At one point, Tuhin and the others struck Apratim on the head with a hard bamboo stick. After ensuring his death, they fled the scene with the phone.
Apratim was the son of Dr. Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bangla at Cumilla University.
The seventh-grade student of Cumilla Border Guard Public School had been missing since Friday afternoon. At around 1 pm on Saturday, local residents found his body lying in a hilly area in Sananda near Cumilla University.
Family members said Apratim left home on foot at around 3 pm on Friday. He did not return home afterward. After searching for him in various places without success, his father, K M Firoz Shahriar, filed a general diary (GD) at Sadar Dakshin Police Station.
