Body of missing Bangladeshi teen found on India border in Brahmanbaria

The body of a 14-year-old boy named Md. Shakil was recovered from the zero line of the India Bangladesh border in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria.

His body was found on Saturday night in the Longkamora area on the Indian side near the barbed wire fence along the Abdullahpur border of the upazila.

Shakil was the son of Malu Mia of Abdullahpur village.

Police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said, quoting family members, that Shakil was mentally ill. He had been missing since Friday. His body was later found in the Longkamora area along the border on Saturday night. Family members later went there and identified Shakil's body.

Lt. Col. Jabbar Ahmed, commander of BGB 25 Battalion, said the body was taken to India for an autopsy through discussions among BGB, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the police of the two countries as it was located on the Indian side.

He said the body would be handed over to the family after the autopsy. However, it has not yet been confirmed how Shakil reached the zero line of the border or how he died.
