How much housing allowance will employees get by grade under the new pay scale?

The government has issued a gazette notification on the new salaries and allowances for government officers and employees. The Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance issued the notification titled "Job (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2026" on Saturday.

Under the new order, allowances for various sectors including health, education, transportation and housing have been revised along with the basic salary. Housing allowance rates have also been set according to region and grade.

Housing Allowance for Different Grades in the Two Dhaka City Corporations

Grades 20 to 16: 60%

Government employees receiving salaries from the lowest step of Grade 20 to the highest step of Grade 16 in the areas under Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations will receive housing allowance at 60% of their basic salary.

Grades 15 to 10: 50%

For employees from the lowest step of Grade 15 to the highest step of Grade 10, the rate will be 50%.

Grades 9 to 5: 40%

In addition, employees from the lowest step of Grade 9 to the highest step of Grade 5 will receive housing allowance at 45% of their basic salary. Employees from the lowest step of Grade 4 to Grade 1 and above will receive housing allowance at 40%.

Other City Corporations and Specified Areas

Housing allowance rates have been set somewhat lower than in Dhaka for Khulna, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Sylhet, Barishal, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur, Mymensingh and Bogura city corporation areas as well as Savar and Cox's Bazar municipal areas.

Grades 20 to 16: 50%

Employees receiving salaries from the lowest step of Grade 20 to the highest step of Grade 16 in these areas will receive housing allowance at 50% of their basic salary.

Grades 15 to 10: 40%

For employees from the lowest step of Grade 15 to the highest step of Grade 10, the rate will be 40%.

Grades 9 to 5: 35% and Grades 4 to 1: 30%

Employees from the lowest step of Grade 9 to the highest step of Grade 5 will receive housing allowance at 35%. Employees from the lowest step of Grade 4 to Grade 1 and above will receive housing allowance at 30%.

Housing Allowance in Other Areas

For government employees in other areas, housing allowance has been set at 45% of basic salary for employees from the lowest step of Grade 20 to the highest step of Grade 16.

Employees from the lowest step of Grade 15 to the highest step of Grade 10 will receive housing allowance at 35%. For employees from the lowest step of Grade 9 to the highest step of Grade 5, the rate will be 30%.

On the other hand, employees from the lowest step of Grade 4 to Grade 1 and above will receive housing allowance at 25% of their basic salary.
