“My only child. He grew up under the weather and sky of Cumilla with everyone’s love and affection. Please pray for him. May Allah grant him a place in heaven.”
Standing in the janaza row and mourning the loss of his only child, Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, father K M Firoz Shahriar cried out in anguish.
Relatives and neighbors present at the heartbreaking moment of bidding farewell to the 13-year-old boy could not hold back their tears either.
The deceased Ishayat Shahriar Apratim was the only child of Dr Nahida Begum, a teacher in the Department of Bangla at Comilla University, and businessman K M Firoz Shahriar. He was a seventh-grade student at the local Border Guard Public School.
The first janaza prayer for Apratim was held at around 10 a.m. Sunday at the Central Mosque premises of Comilla University. The presence of university community members and local residents made the farewell atmosphere even more somber.

After the first janaza, the second janaza will be held at 11 a.m. at Gandhamati Eidgah Maidan in Cumilla, his birthplace.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, Apratim left his home in Kotbari with his mother’s iPhone, saying he was going to take pictures with his friends. However, when he did not return home even after nightfall, concern spread among his family. Later, the family and police searched all possible locations.
The next morning on Saturday, Apratim’s blood-stained body was recovered from an isolated forest in the Sananda area near Lalmai Hill. Police suspect that the teenager was brutally killed with the intention of stealing an iPhone.
