Presenting Is My Profession, I Have No Political Affiliation: Suchana

Sadia Roshni Suchana

Television presenter Sadia Roshni Suchana recently shared a post on social media following her appearance at the ‘July National Conference’ held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on July 4.

In the post, she wrote, “I had to host without any rehearsal or script, and that too at an event organized by the honorable Prime Minister. I never imagined it would go so smoothly. The chief guest at today’s event was honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. As a citizen of the country and as a presenter, being able to invite the Prime Minister to the stage was undoubtedly a remarkable experience.”

Following her role at the event, Suchana faced criticism on social media. Many users alleged that she had been closely associated with the Awami League. However, speaking to Agamir Somoy, she denied the allegations.

“We are professional presenters. We do not have close ties with any political party,” she said.

A Facebook user named Fatima Tuz Zohra alleged that Suchana had previously shared a post mocking BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia over her eyebrows in a photograph featuring her and Zubaida Rahman.

In the same post, Fatima claimed that the Awami League operated a think tank and propaganda organization called CRI, headed by Redwan Siddiqi Bobby, and alleged that Suchana had been an important member of the organization. She further claimed that Suchana had hosted many of its events and maintained direct contact with senior Awami League leaders.

Responding to the allegations, Suchana told Agamir Somoy on Tuesday afternoon that she had hosted the ‘Joy Bangla Concert’ and the program ‘Let’s Talk.’

“Look, I was not the only person involved in the concert. Eight bands participated, and there were several presenters. If none of those bands have been banned, why should I be?” she said.

Social media platforms have been flooded with allegations against Suchana. Several users have shared photographs showing her hosting events linked to the Awami League. Those posts have raised questions about why she was selected to host an event attended by the Prime Minister.

Emphasizing that presenting is her profession, Suchana said, “I have hosted CRI programs. That does not mean I was affiliated with them. Presenting is my profession, and that is what I did. I work in all kinds of hosting engagements. I do not belong to any political party. I am not involved in politics. No one in my family is involved in politics either.”

She also alleged that a social media campaign was being organized against her.

“Various cards and posts are being circulated on social media, and 90 percent of them are fake. Perhaps 10 percent may be true. A story and comment about eyebrows are being widely shared. Anyone can tell the account is fake by looking at its profile picture. People are creating mobs and spreading hostility on social media,” she said.

Suchana regularly works as a presenter on various television channels. In December 2024, during the tenure of the interim government, she also hosted a cultural evening and dinner held in honor of Jose Ramos-Horta during his visit to Bangladesh at the invitation of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.

Speaking about her involvement in the event attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Suchana said the organizers had thoroughly vetted her background before assigning her the role.

“They checked everything about me. The work I have done in the past is available on my Facebook page. I was asked by SB whether I had worked with the previous prime minister. I said I had not. They conducted further verification and assigned me the responsibility only after completing all the checks,” she said.
