Minister Dipen Dewan Resigns from Office

The Minister of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Ministry Affairs Dipen Dewan has resigned from his position.
He submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday according to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
In his resignation letter, Dipen Dewan stated that he is stepping down due to physical illness.
He wrote, “ I,Dipen Dewan serving as the Minister of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Ministry. Since assuming office, I have been suffering from various physical complications. Due to my health condition, I am facing difficulties in carrying out the regular duties of the ministry. In the interest of accelerating the development and administrative activities of the current government, I believe it is necessary for me to step down from my present position.”
Earlier, Dipen Dewan entered the cabinet immediately after being elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time. His father, Subimal Dewan served as an advisor on tribal affairs to President Ziaur Rahman.
The 63-year-old minister was elected in the 13th National Parliamentary Election from the Rangamati constituency as a BNP candidate.
He won by the largest margin among all elected MPs, defeating his nearest rival by 170,322 votes.
