Four people, including a woman, were prevented from entering Bangladesh through the Dainur border in Dinajpur Sadar and have been kept at the zero line by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The force has called for a flag meeting with India's Border Security Force (BSF), but has yet to receive a response.
According to the BGB, the four individuals attempted to enter Bangladesh illegally around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday through the Dainur border near Main Pillar No. 315 in Akhirapur, under Kamalpur Union of Dinajpur Sadar. BGB personnel intercepted them before they could enter Bangladeshi territory.
The group, currently being held at the Dainur Border Outpost (BOP) zero line, consists of one woman and three men, one of whom is a person with a disability.
The BGB identified all four as Bangladeshi nationals. They are Babul Molla, 50, son of Masud Molla of Karikarpara in Khulna Sadar; his wife Sukhi Molla, 35; their son Mohammad Jihad Molla, 15; and Gani Molla, 35, son of the late Torab Molla of Panch Kamne village in Kalia upazila of Narail.
According to a BGB source, the four had travelled to India about two years ago in search of work. Three belong to the same family, while the fourth is from a different family. They were later arrested by Indian police while attempting to return to Bangladesh and served two months in prison.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Arif-uz-Zaman, commanding officer of the 29 BGB Battalion in Phulbari, confirmed the incident. He said the BGB has sent a formal request to the BSF for a flag meeting and is awaiting a response.
