Dhallywood's much talked-about film actress Pori Moni has expressed her anguish over what she said her 'unjust and illegal arrest' following the RAB raid on her Banani residence in 2021.
Following recent remarks on the matter by former RAB intelligence chief Lieutenant Colonel Khairul Islam in an online talk show, Pori Moni posted a lengthy status on social media yesterday (Friday, July 10), detailing the events of that day.
Thanking Colonel Khairul Islam, Pori Moni wrote that although delayed, Khairul Islam has publicly acknowledged some truths in a recent online talk show.
"Through this, the people of the country have come to know that I was wrongfully arrested in the interest of certain vested groups, on the orders of the then RAB Director General and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun," Pori wrote.
The actress noted that at the time, she was shown arrested in false and fabricated cases, remanded for 7 days, and kept in jail for a total of 20 consecutive days. She said that no one can fully comprehend how much that experience has damaged and disrupted her life.
Pori Moni lamented, "The way I was humiliated, and my honor, morality, and character were questioned, will remain a painful chapter in Bangladesh's history. An important state force was used to devastate the life of a simple female artist."
"Perhaps now the court will acquit me of those state-framed cases. But can those lost days be given back to me? Will the state take responsibility for the false and misleading perceptions about me that were planted in people's minds?" she questioned.
The Dhallywood actress stated that she never wanted to be known as a controversial figure; she simply wanted to live as an artist with people's love.
Noting that after all this time, she is not speaking out of anger or revenge, but rather for truth, justice, and humanity, Pori Moni said that no innocent person should ever have to suffer such injustice in the future, and that people's trust in state institutions should remain intact.
Expressing deep gratitude to her family, colleagues, journalists, and fans who stood by her during her difficult times, she wrote, "I do not wish to carry the wounds of the past. I want to live the rest of my life with my work, my child, my family, and the love of my audience."
Earlier, on August 4, 2021, RAB raided Pori Moni's residence in Banani, Dhaka. On that day, at 4 PM, RAB went to her house. Pori Moni had even gone live on Facebook at the time, expressing concern over her safety.
