National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organizer (Southern Region) and Cumilla-4 Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah said the government’s retreat from the demand for a referendum has left the public disappointed and hurt.

At the same time, he strongly criticized the government over employment, the power crisis and everyday civic sufferings.

He made the remarks at a rally following a July march at Baitul Amin Shopoth Chattar in Chandpur on Saturday afternoon.

The march was organized as part of the monthlong July Awakening to Build the Nation program announced by the National Citizen Party (NCP) to mark the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.

Hasnat Abdullah said, “The government had promised to create one crore jobs. But even after six months, it has failed to ensure a single job.”

He urged the government to quickly take initiatives to create employment opportunities for unemployed youths.

He added, “The scale of load-shedding in the country is increasing day by day. Although the government raised fuel prices citing the Iran war, it has so far failed to provide an effective solution to the power crisis. As a result, the lives of ordinary people have become miserable amid the ongoing crises.”

Earlier, a procession started from Mission Road in the town and, after parading through several important roads, ended at Baitul Amin Shopoth Chattar.

Among those present were NCP Joint Convener Ali Ahsan Zonaed, Joint Member Secretary and Cumilla Divisional Organizing Secretary Md. Ataullah, Joint Chief Coordinator Mahbub Alam, Central President of Jubo Shakti Tarikul Islam, Chandpur district NCP Convener Md. Mahbub Alam and Member Secretary Amanullah Patwari. Central and local leaders and activists of the NCP also took part in the march and rally.
