Forest Department released an endangered slow loris into its natural habitat after rescuing the animal from a residential area in Kamalganj, Moulvibazar.
Rajkandi Range Officer and Assistant Conservator of Forests Pritam Barua confirmed the matter. The release took place on Monday evening in the Alinagar Tea Garden area.
According to Forest Department sources, the slow loris was rescued at around 11:30 pm on 5 July with the assistance of local residents. The animal was then taken to the Rajkandi Range Office for a medical examination and necessary care.
To ensure a safe release into its natural roaming grounds, necessary monitoring and preparations were conducted with the support of the German-based international organization, Plumploris eV.
After close observation, officials confirmed the animal was fully healthy and fit for release into the wild. Forest Department officials, employees, and local environmental activists were present during the release.
Pritam told Agamir Somoy, “Slow lorises are extremely shy and nocturnal wildlife. Their numbers are gradually decreasing in the forests. As the rescued animal was healthy, it was released considering the suitable natural environment. Local awareness and cooperation are crucial in conserving such wildlife.”
